According to legend, a chance accident happened when a confectioner, intending to make glacier mints, took his eye off the pan and found the mixture had started to 'grain' and become cloudy. and the Kendal Mint Cake was born!
The potential of Kendal Mint Cake as an energy supplier was recognised when used on the 1914-1917 Transarctic Expedition under the command of Sir E Shackleton and the 1st Everest Expedition, and now the mint cake is known as a hikers energy giver; for most of us however its simply a delicious treat!
